Seaford Marathon
Sunday 31st August - Seaford Fire Station, Seaford
WebStarts at 10am but runners will need to be there from 09.30. Facilities open from 0830. Taking place over a full 26.2 mile course, the marathon follows a challenging off-road route through the beautiful South Downs north of Seaford and takes in the iconic downland villages of Alfriston and Firle.
The inaugural event took place in 2007 and saw a mere12 runners complete the full distance. All proceeds from the event were donated to the families of the two East Sussex firefighters killed on duty at a fireworks factory fire in 2006. 2008 sees a more high profile event, made possible through the generous sponsorship provided by mybricksandmortar.com, the online DIY estate agency. A full field of 130 runners are set to take on the marathon distance, with a further 20 competing as part of 2, 3 or 4 person relay teams. All proceeds will be split between two charities, Medecins San Frontieres and the Firefighter Charity. 2009 and beyond will see further expansion, with the planned consolidation of the event as a permanent fixture on the UK marathon calendar.
